Insight – Late Start Early Finish

Insight Late Start Early Finish

This applies for risk management in shopping centre (retail cleaning).

Insight Portfolio report shows a ‘late/early’ pair of values. This is the number of target time units that staff started late, or finished early for the site for the day.

late start early finish

This shows 62 target time units late for the centre for the day, and 95 early finish. It target is 20 minutes, then this is a lot of time for each.

You need to reduce these as much as possible to result in lower risk.

Late Start.

The first attendance of the day after start time is used to detect if staff are not getting to work on time. In other words, they are starting late.

This may happen because they are genuinely lae to work – or (and often) they are attending to other cleaning tasks before they commence their normal duties.

For risk of slip and trip, this means that if no one checks an area before the public attend, then any latent hazard in that area will not have been attended to and the chance of slip and trip injury will increase.

Early Finish.

The last attendance of the day is used to detect if staff are leaving their duties early. If they leave early then this number will increase. This can happen because of rostering or because staff just needed to leave early.

This also represents a higher risk time for slip and trip injury.

Implications For Slip And Trip

Late Start means no one was at a location before start of trade, and for some time after, so any hazards there as a result of rain or any other factor may not have been cleaned up and hence the risk of slip and trip injury will be higher.

Early finish means that staff left the site early. If a slip and trip happens late in the day, after staff have left, then the legal position can be bad.
